Yesterday, June 8, made it 17 years since Nigeria’s military head of state, General Sanni Abacha died.
One of his daughters, Gumsu Abacha took to Twitter to pay tribute to her father.
She described him as Nigeria’s finest head of state. See her tweet below.

Her tweet however, led to controversy as some of her followers were throwing rude comments at her while some defended her.
@G_sparking @toluogunlesi she dreaming or on a highly delusional state of mind. I pray Allah to forgive him. #Nigeriadarkdaysareover

Regardless of what we think of Sani Abacha, that shouldn’t make us shot @G_sparking down for celebrating her father.

— Segun Adebisi Jr (@JrSegun) June 8, 2015
Gumsu later shared another tweet, reacting to negative comments that trailed her tribute to her father.
Nigerians are so funny! So I can’t pay tribute to my late father without being criticised. We have a serious problem.#AbachaForever
— Gumsu Sani Abacha (@G_sparking) June 8, 2015
The late military dictator was born September 20, 1943 and ruled Nigeria from November 17, 1993, to June 8, 1998, when he died in office.
Abacha was accused of stashing money in foreign bank accounts and till date, the stolen wealth are still being returned from foreign banks. Recall that the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Hans Rudolf Hodel, in a meeting with the President Muhammadu Buhari, disclosed that about $370million recovered from former head of state, Gen. Sani Abacha, has been traced by the Swiss government to a Luxembourg account.
