The president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, was represented by former vice president Atiku Abubakar in Jumat prayers, which was held at the national mosque in Abuja.

According to Premium Times, Friday’s Jumat prayer is the first in a series of activities marking the commencement of Buhari’s inauguration.

“I am here to represent the President-elect with Governor (Aziz) Yari of Zamfara State and some of the governors that accompany me. The prayers have gone on very well, we are grateful for all the support and cooperation of all Nigerians.

“We have prayed to have a successful transfer of power on the inauguration day, which is on May 29 this year, insha Allah,” Atiku said.

On May 24, Sunday, all Christians across the country will also hold prayers in churches for the same purpose, while the formal swearing in ceremony of the new president will take place on May 29.

At the service, Kabiru Mohammed, the Chief Imam of the national mosque, called on the political leaders and all people present at the congregation to take the issue of trust seriously as the creator will call everyone to task based on what people do with responsibilities entrusted to them.

In his message, Kabiru Mohammed warned the people to be careful with opportunities and resources given to them, as almighty God would demand explanation for their actions or stewardship. The chief imam said special prayers for the nation, Nigerians and the leadership, urging all of them to work for the unity of the country.
